Meadow of quivering aspens
Derived from Old English elements 'wafer' (quivering or brushwood) and 'leah' (meadow). It originally referred to a specific landscape of aspen trees, known for their leaves that tremble in the wind. The name gained literary prominence through Sir Walter Scott's 1814 novel.
