Singled out, chosen, or of the Welsh people
Vala has multiple etymological roots, most notably from the Germanic 'wala' meaning 'chosen' or 'singled out.' In Old Norse, it is associated with a 'völva' or seeress. It is also historically used as a diminutive for names like Valentina or as a reference to the Welsh people in Germanic languages.
Less common today
Vala isn't in the latest US Top 1000. It last peaked at #8,677 in 2011.
