Abode of love or light
The name is most famously associated with the Shalimar Gardens, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is often interpreted as meaning 'abode of love' or 'light of the moon' in Sanskrit and Arabic contexts. In the West, it gained recognition through the luxury fragrance by Guerlain and the American soul-disco group.
