Grief-stricken or sad
Derived from the Pashto word 'malal', meaning sad or grieved. It gained international prominence through the activist Malala Yousafzai, who was named after Malalai of Maiwand, a legendary Afghan folk hero. Despite its somber literal meaning, it is now widely associated with courage and education advocacy.
