Derived from the Hawaiian words 'māhealani', referring to the night of the full moon in the traditional lunar calendar. It combines 'māhea', meaning hazy or moonlight, with 'lani', meaning sky or heavenly. It is a name deeply rooted in the celestial observations of indigenous Hawaiian culture.
