Purplish-red color; named after a town in Italy
The name is derived from the Italian town of Magenta, the site of a major battle in 1859. Shortly after the battle, a newly discovered aniline dye was named 'magenta' to commemorate the victory. As a given name, it is used as a vibrant color name, similar to Violet or Scarlett.
