Aquatic plant of the genus Sagittaria
The name is derived from the katniss plant, also known as arrowhead, which has edible tubers. It was popularized by Suzanne Collins for the protagonist of The Hunger Games trilogy, symbolizing survival and resourcefulness. In the story, the character's father notes that as long as she can find herself, she will never starve.
