Dino originated as a diminutive for Italian names ending in -dino, such as Bernardino or Corradino. It is also associated with the Greek word 'deinos', meaning terrible or potent, which is the root of the word dinosaur. In modern usage, it stands alone as a short, punchy mid-century classic.
