Auriel is a name with dual roots, most commonly associated with the Latin word for gold, 'aurum'. It is also considered a variant of Ariel, a Hebrew name meaning 'lion of God', which appears in the Bible as a name for Jerusalem and as an angelic figure in later traditions.
