Abie is a diminutive form of Abraham, which is derived from the Hebrew name Avraham. In the Bible, Abraham is considered the patriarch of the Hebrew people, and his name signifies a father of a multitude or many nations. While often used as a nickname, it has a history of independent use in the early 20th century.
