Yaritsa is a modern elaboration likely derived from the Slavic name Yara or the Spanish name Yaritza. It is often associated with the indigenous Tupi-Guarani legend of Iara, the 'Lady of the Waters,' combined with Spanish diminutive suffixes. In some contexts, it is also linked to the Arabic word for small butterfly.
