Derived from the Hebrew word for the Nubian ibex, a graceful mountain goat. In the Old Testament, Yael is a heroic figure who defeats the Canaanite general Sisera. While traditionally feminine in Israel, it has gained traction as a gender-neutral choice in the United States.
