Door or valley
Toya is often used as a diminutive of Victoria or Latoya, but it also has independent roots. In Japanese, it can be derived from kanji meaning 'door' and 'valley,' while in Spanish-speaking cultures, it is frequently a pet name for Victoria. It gained popularity in the United States during the mid-to-late 20th century, particularly within the African American community.
