Redwood tree
Sacoya is a modern variant of Sequoia, derived from the name of the massive redwood trees native to California. The tree itself was named in honor of Sequoyah, the Cherokee scholar who created the Cherokee syllabary.
Less common today
Sacoya isn't in the latest US Top 1000. It last peaked at #7,029 in 1994.
