Gift of God; late summer
As a diminutive of Dorothea or Theodora, it carries the Greek meaning of 'gift of God.' Separately, in several Slavic languages, it is associated with the word for 'late summer' or 'harvest.' It is also the name of a popular beverage, though this is rarely the intended etymological source.
