The exact etymology of Tauna is unclear. It is often used as a modern variation of Tanya, which is a Russian diminutive of Tatiana, or as a creative spelling of Tawny, referring to a golden-brown color. In some instances, it is used as a phonetic variation of Polynesian names, though this is less common in the United States.
