Tameka is an Americanized elaboration of Tamika, likely derived from the Japanese name Tamiko or influenced by the Aramaic name Thomasina, meaning twin. It gained significant popularity in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s. Some interpretations also link it to the Hebrew name Tamar, meaning palm tree.
