Sidi is a title of respect and honor in Arabic, derived from 'Sayyidi'. It is traditionally used to denote a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad or as a respectful form of address for a teacher or elder. In some North African and West African cultures, it has transitioned from a title into a given name.
