Mark, sign, or small beauty mark
Derived from the Arabic word meaning a small beauty mark or mole on the face, which is traditionally considered a sign of beauty. It is also associated with the region of Damascus or Greater Syria (Ash-Sham). In some contexts, it is interpreted as a variation of the name Shamiya.
