To tame or subdue
Damia is a Greek name derived from the word 'damazo', meaning to tame or subdue. In Greek mythology, Damia was an epithet of the goddess Demeter and was also the name of a local fertility goddess worshipped in Epidaurus. It is often considered a shorter, more modern-sounding relative of the name Damiana.
