Half-wise or simple
Derived from the Old English elements 'sam' (half) and 'wis' (wise). It was famously revived by J.R.R. Tolkien for the character Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings, intended to represent a humble and loyal personality.
About 20 boys were named Samwise in 2025.
