Derived from the Arabic root 's-j-d', meaning to prostrate in prayer. It specifically refers to one who frequently bows down in worship and is a title of honor in Islamic tradition. It is most famously associated with Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, the fourth Shia Imam.
