From the River Severn
A modern spelling variant of Sabrina, which is the Latinized name of the River Severn in Wales. According to legend, the name refers to a princess who drowned in the river, becoming its goddess. It has long been associated with Celtic mythology and was popularized in literature by John Milton and later by the play and film 'Sabrina'.
