Ottis is a variant of the name Otis, which derives from the Germanic name Otto. It ultimately stems from the Old High German word 'od', meaning wealth, fortune, or possession. While Otis became the standard spelling in the United States, Ottis was a moderately common alternative in the early 20th century.
