Nilo is a multi-origin name most commonly recognized as the Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese form of Neil or Nilus. It is also used in reference to the Nile river, which derives from the Greek word Neilos. In some contexts, it is associated with the Gaelic word for cloud or champion.
