Victory of the people
Derived from the Greek name Nikolaos, it combines 'nike' (victory) and 'laos' (people). While the 'Nicholas' spelling is standard in English, this variant retains the Latinized 'u' often seen in historical Germanic and Dutch records. It is famously associated with Saint Nicholas, the inspiration for Santa Claus.
