Derived from the Hebrew name Netan'el, it combines the elements 'natan' (to give) and 'el' (God). In the New Testament, Nathanael is an apostle often identified with Bartholomew. It is a more traditional, scholarly alternative to the popular Nathan or Nathaniel.
