Menno is a Frisian diminutive of Germanic names containing the element 'magin', which translates to strength or power. It is most famously associated with Menno Simons, the 16th-century priest whose followers became known as the Mennonites. While rare in the United States, it remains a recognizable traditional choice in the Netherlands and Northern Germany.
