Dark-skinned or Moorish
Derived from the Latin name Maurus, it was originally used to describe individuals from the Roman province of Mauretania. It gained popularity in the Middle Ages due to Saint Maurus, a disciple of Saint Benedict. Today, it remains a classic choice in Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
