Of the sea or bitter; star of the sea
Marlina is a modern elaboration of Marlene or Mary, often interpreted as a blend of Maria and Magdalena. It carries the traditional meanings associated with Mary, such as 'bitterness' or 'beloved,' alongside the Latin 'marinus' meaning 'of the sea.'
