Bitter, beloved, or drop of the sea
A French variant of Marianne, which combines the Hebrew names Mary and Anne. It carries the dual legacy of Mary's associations with the sea and Anne's association with grace. While popular in the mid-20th century in France, it remains a rare, sophisticated choice in the United States.
