Marci is a diminutive form of Marcia, which is the feminine version of Marcius, a Roman family name derived from the god Mars. While originally associated with the Roman god of war, it has evolved into a friendly, mid-century nickname-style choice. It was most popular in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s.
