Lissandra is a modern elaboration of Alexandra, combining the classic Greek roots of 'alexein' (to defend) and 'aner' (man). It may also be influenced by the name Melissa or the Greek 'lysis' meaning 'release' or 'freedom'. It offers a melodic, multi-syllabic alternative to more common 'Sandra' variations.
