In Sanskrit, Kasi (often spelled Kashi) refers to the city of Varanasi, known as the 'City of Light.' It is derived from the root 'kas,' meaning to shine or be bright. In some Western contexts, it is also used as a diminutive of Katherine or Cassandra.
