Derived from the name of the flowering plant, which itself comes from the Latin 'juncus' meaning reed. It refers specifically to a species of Narcissus known for its fragrant yellow blooms and slender, reed-like leaves. In the Victorian language of flowers, the jonquil symbolized a desire for affection returned.
