Johanne is the Danish, Norwegian, and German feminine form of Johannes, which ultimately derives from the Hebrew name Yochanan. While the French variant Jeanne and the English Joan were historically more common, Johanne retains a distinct European flair. It shares the same etymological root as the ubiquitous Jane and John.
