People of a different language
Derived from the Dakota Sioux word 'shaiyena', it was used to describe the Algonquian-speaking Cheyenne tribe. It literally translates to 'speakers of a foreign language' or 'red-talkers'. It became popular as a given name in the United States during the 1990s.
