Whole or universal battle
Derived from the Germanic name Irmhild, it combines the elements 'ermen' (whole/universal) and 'hild' (battle). It became popular in Italy and Spain due to the 14th-century Blessed Imelda Lambertini, the patroness of First Communicants. In the modern era, it is often associated with its most famous political namesake, though it retains a vintage, rhythmic charm.
About 33 girls were named Imelda in 2025.
