In Tigrinya, a language spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia, Hiyab translates directly to 'gift.' It is a meaningful choice for parents who view their child as a divine blessing or a precious offering to the world. While rare in the United States, it carries significant cultural weight in East African communities.
