Little village or home
Derived from the Old French word 'hamelet', which is a diminutive of 'ham' (village). It entered the English lexicon as a surname and later became inextricably linked with literature. While it has roots in Germanic elements meaning 'home', its primary association today is with Shakespeare's tragic prince.
