Pledge or hostage
Derived from the Germanic word 'gisil', it historically referred to a person held as a pledge or a noble youth in training. While the meaning is literal, it carries a sense of commitment and value. The spelling variant Gizelle adds a modern, stylized flair to the traditional French Giselle.
