From France or free man
Francina is a feminine diminutive of Francis, ultimately derived from the Germanic tribal name of the Franks. The name originally referred to someone from France, but because the Franks were the only ones with the rights of free citizens in the post-Roman world, it also came to mean 'free'.
Fewer than 5 girls were named Francina in 2025.
