Finola is an Anglicized form of the Irish name Fionnuala. In Irish mythology, Fionnuala was one of the children of Lir who was transformed into a swan for 900 years. The name is derived from the Gaelic elements 'fionn', meaning white or fair, and 'guala', meaning shoulder.
