From the people of the lake
Derived from the Iroquoian word 'Erielhonan', it refers to the Erie people, a Native American tribe. The name is most commonly associated with Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes, and the city in Pennsylvania. It carries a strong sense of American geography and natural history.
