Island or first choice
Ennis has two primary etymological paths. In Irish, it is derived from 'inis', meaning island, often associated with the town of Ennis in County Clare. It also serves as an anglicized form of the Gaelic name Aonghus, which translates to 'one choice' or 'first choice'.
