Noble friend or elf friend
Elwin is derived from Old English elements, most commonly 'æthel' (noble) and 'wine' (friend), or 'ælf' (elf) and 'wine'. It represents a heritage of loyalty and high status. While rare today, it shares the same linguistic roots as more common names like Alvin and Edwin.
About 20 boys were named Elwin in 2025.
