The exact etymology of Deyra is unclear. It is often considered a modern variation of Dara, which has roots in Hebrew meaning 'pearl of wisdom' or 'compassion,' or it may be linked to the ancient Northumbrian kingdom of Deira. In some Spanish-speaking contexts, it is used as a rhythmic, modern invention.
