Thyra is an ancient Scandinavian name derived from the Old Norse name Þýri. It combines the name of the thunder god Thor with elements meaning struggle, battle, or helpful. It was famously borne by the 10th-century Queen of Denmark, Thyra Danebod, who is credited with building the Danevirke fortifications.
