Cheyeanne is a modern spelling variant of Cheyenne, derived from the Dakota Sioux word 'Ε‘ahΓyena'. It was historically used by the Sioux to describe the Algonquian-speaking Cheyenne people, literally meaning 'speakers of a foreign language'.
