A modern American elaboration of Cheyenne, derived from the Dakota Sioux word 'shaiyena'. It historically refers to the Cheyenne people, an Algonquian-speaking tribe of the Great Plains. The 'anna' suffix is a common English addition to create a more feminine, melodic sound.
